Report an Equine Claim
If your insured horse is injured, becomes ill, needs surgery, dies or is stolen, your policy requires you to report it right away. Waiting can put your claim at risk. Call your insurance company’s claims line first, then call us so we can make sure every step is covered.
Not sure which company insures your horse? Look at the first page of your policy, or call us.
What to do
- Get your veterinarian involved immediately for any injury or illness.
- Report it to your insurance company’s claims line listed above.
- Call our office so we can confirm you’re meeting every requirement of your policy.
What not to do
- Don’t euthanize your horse until the insurance company’s claims department approves it.
- Don’t proceed with surgery until the claims department approves it, unless it’s a life-threatening emergency and you’ve called them.
- Don’t bury or dispose of your horse until it is approved by the claims adjuster.
Call us first, not last
Too many claims run into trouble because an owner didn’t know a required step. We’ve guided horse owners through claims since 1981, and we’d much rather hear from you early.
